Senior Scientist/Senior Scientific Manager – Nonclinical Development

Concentric Analgesics seeks a Neuroscience focused Senior Scientist/Senior Scientific Manager, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, to lead the nonclinical development activities for its pipeline of non-opioid analgesic prodrugs. The role includes responsibility for design and oversight of studies for efficacy, mechanism of action, toxicology and pharmacokinetics/drug metabolism, carried out at CROs. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to enable the rapid and efficient assessment of preclinical and clinical candidate prodrugs from animal studies through regulatory approval.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with medicinal chemists to design and execute early PK and efficacy/MOA studies for candidate prodrugs
  • Lead effort to develop protocols, identify CROs and conduct DMPK studies for pipeline prodrugs
  • Collaborate with program toxicologist to conduct appropriate toxicology studies from IND to NDA
  • Represent nonclinical development on project teams
  • Ensure GXP compliance on all aspects nonclinical studies necessary for regulatory submissions
  • Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs on the preparation of regulatory submissions
  • Bring expertise on nonclinical pain models to discussions of MOA and new therapeutic targets to strategy discussions
  • Report to EVP Program Management & Strategy

Requirements:

  • PhD or equivalent in biomedical science (neuroscience, DMPK, or pharmacology preferred)
  • 10+ years’ experience in biomedical science with a minimum of 7 years in industry (nonclinical R&D)
  • Small molecule development experience
  • Extensive experience working with nonclinical CROs (protocol development, budgets, study oversight, CRO selection)
  • Experience in proposing, evaluating and selecting appropriate vendors and consultants
  • Experience participating on project teams representing nonclinical functions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and leadership skills
